Bryan Mew

“Chinese Australian artist, Bryan Mew’s practice involves co-mingling the origins of the Japanese and Chinese writing system with painting and performance to reimagine the ancient language in a contemporary context.”

Mew experiments with the ancient Chinese pictographic language, deciphering its original meaning and roots to inform and extend his painting practice. His works have been exhibited across Australia and Japan, and has participated in an international art residency in Nara that fosters collaboration between the city of Nara and international artists.
